This town was built on the foundations of an earlier settlement following a large fire at the end of the 14th century. Its heyday was during the period of the Lords of Hradec. Its renaissance and baroque burghers houses are surrounded by a protective system of ponds. The gothic castle was rebuilt in the renaissance style at the end of the 16th century and his main attraction is splendidly furnished interiors and gallery of pictures by Jan Zrzavý. The historical square in Telč is one of the most beautifulsquare in the Czech Republic and has a uniquely preserved line of historical townhouses with an arcade. The historic centre of Telč is protected by UNESCO since 1992 as World Cultural Heritage.
