The town situated on the boundary with Eastern Bohemia. Among its medieval constructions the most important is the renaissance chateau dated from the years 1568 – 1581, built on the foundations of the old castle and monastery. This is an example of an arcade-chateau with retained renaissance features including the unique sgrafitto decorations. The bear-house of the chateau, where the composer Bedřich Smetana (1824 – 1884) was born, is arranged now as the Museum of the Czech Music. The chateau is protected by UNESCO since 1999.
