The chateau is situated on a rock towering above the river Dyje. It is the most beautiful of the Mravian aristocratic residences from the Baroque period. The monumental oval Hall of Ancestors, whose ceiling and walls are decorated with scenes celebrating the Althan family, offers unique evidence of the lifestyle enjoyed by the Central European aristocracy. The richly furniched interiors document the culture of homemaking from the end of the 18th century.
In the 1930s, the Vranov Dam was built, behind which lay a reservoir of a length of approximately 30 km. The valley of the Vranov nad Dyjí township is well known for its system of underground hollows known as the Ice Caverns (Ledové sluje).
