The royal historical town founded in 1226 by the unification of Romanesque setlements. It abounds in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque houses and palaces, medieval walls, unique labyrinth of underground passages and a plenty of important constructions of sacral character. The most significant monument is romanesque chapel of St. Catherine, national cultural treasure, with decoration from the first half of the 12th century, which depicts the genealogy of the Premyslid Princes who ruled Bohemia and Moravia as of the 10th century. Znojmo is the centre of famous wine region with great vintage celebrations held each September.
